I’m so thankful to Bryan Daste for helping to bring this song to life; to my husband, Ross Segelken for being such a supportive and wonderful partner; and to Kathryn A. Wood for who she was in my life and for generously helping me and others follow some dreams. I think she would’ve liked this song. It’s dedicated to my brother, D, with love and complication.

With her distinct vibrato and phrasing, Kelli’s sound is unique and passion undeniable. Though compared to that of Alanis Morrisette, Kina Grannis, Gigi Love, or “a cross between Tracy Chapman and Nanci Griffith,” her voice and style are all her own. But it’s the storytelling and genuine desire to reflect and honor the souls of her characters that drives her songwriting.

Drawing on her unconventional upbringing—the daughter of two fine artists (her father also a conga drummer, and her mother also a dedicated social activist); having once been a French clown, started grade-school from a tent, lived for a while in an octagon-shaped house on stilts down the road from a commune; having grown up in N. California and small-town Oregon, with summers in Idaho; and time spent living solo in Finland, Tokyo, Vancouver B.C., and NYC—Kelli has always danced to her own beat and her diverse experiences are reflected in her varied subjects written across genres.

Kelli studied speech-level singing with The Voice Project, was a board member of the Portland Songwriters Association for 8+ years, and is currently a member of West Coast Songwriters and Nashville Songwriters Association (NSAI). Kelli also writes and performs children's music as Kelli Welli ( She has a Master of Publishing degree and a B.A. in Speech Communication with minors in Japanese and German.

Kelli also writes and performs her songs and stories for children as Kelli Welli...

Kelli Welli bio: Writing songs and stories for kids and the people who love them. Drawing on her unique upbringing and often inspired by the kids and animals in her life, Kelli Welli’s wide ranging songwriting is smart, fun, often hilarious, sometimes reflective and deeply sweet. Always genuine. Her original songs and lullabies weave wonderful tales, celebrate love, sunshine, nature, different languages, and honor all the details that come with raising these amazing little people in our lives.

Kelli’s been called, “hysterical and superbly talented” by fellow artists and parents often say, “This is music I can actually listen to over and over… and over… and still enjoy!” The Portland, OR based artist shares tidbits from her life as a new mom, with songs she and her twins actually use to learn and encourage things like healthy eating, waiting for your turn, going on the potty, and sleep. Come sing and dance and play along with Kelli Welli!
